This morning started off with an interesting yet delicious combination for breakfast: fried eggs smothered in salsa, chocolate and rice cereal, boiled plantains, and several types of bread. After breakfast everyone split up for their quiet time and then into their guy or girl huddles.
PARENTS BE WARNED (and excited) your children are hungry for discipleship! They are craving the Word like crazy, and are going to come back wanting to learn and see more! END OF WARNING
After some amazing conversations about what the Lord is teaching the guys and gals we loaded our 15 passenger micro-buses (aka vans) to go to the school, Rayitos de Sol (spelling??)
The school is located only 4 blocks from Seteca Seminary, where our group is staying until Wednesday. Our group did GREAT with the VBS in the morning with all of the students. The Bible story was about Jesus healing the man with a skin disease, found in Matthew 8. The Bible story group used puppets today to teach the lesson, and did a fantastic job.
Some pics from this morning at the school:
View from the 3rd floor of the school...the landfill is basically everything on the right side of the road in this pic...and yes, it is that close to the school.
Another view from same level...notice the lot in the lower left hand corner where the new buildings will be built in the future for more grades. I believe that part/all of the Guatemalan portion of the 'Rays of Hope' emphasis will be used for these buildings which will educate kids, allowing them to hopefully break the cycle of poverty that has been going for many generations. Once poor, always poor in the dump...but hopefully not for long!
